Causes Of Oily Skin

Seborrhoea is the medical name of the oily skin. Most of the time, oily skin is caused during puberty when hormonal changes start occurring in the body. When androgen level in body increases, the skin starts to produce excess sebum. Having oily skin often causes acne breakouts and makes the skin acne prone. Let us have a look at the causes of oily skin:

Common Causes of Oily Skin

   1. Excess Humidity

Environment or the atmosphere plays a very important role in seborrhea. Due to excess humidity, your skin starts sweating and becomes oily. Excess moisture and oil will be visible on your face the moment you start sweating.

2.    Hereditary

If your parents have oily skin, then you are bound to inherit the same. Unfortunately, changing this is not in your hands but you can still take preventive measures for betterment like taking a good diet which is oil-free.

3.    Hormonal Changes

This is one of the main causes of oily skin. Androgens which are oil-secreting glands sometimes produce excess oils especially during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause or when you are on strong medication like taking birth control pills. The changes in hormones cause excess oil secretion.

4.    Bad Eating Habits

Foods containing refined carbohydrates, sugar, and dairy products might be very tasty to eat but they are extremely dangerous for your skin.  Even a basic, daily-use item like refined oil is not skin-friendly in case you have oily skin.

5.    Stress

The competitive era, in which we live, stress is one of the most common problems. During the stressful period, our body tends to overproduce androgen. This cause of oily skin can be cured very easily if you start living a happy go lucky life.

6.    Skin Products not Suiting

Using sunscreen, moisturiser, toner and other skin care products in day to day life is a good habit as it keeps your skin healthy and nourished. But you must use only those products that suit your skin. Your products must be oil-free, non-comedogenic, and dermatologically tested. There are a lot of moisturisers and sunscreens which leave a greasy residue on the skin surface. Such products must be avoided. There are special oily skin care products available in the market, you can try them.

7.    Not Drinking Enough Water

If you do not drink enough water, then there will be a blockage in skin glands. Keeping your body hydrated will keep your glands less oily.

8.    Washing Face Too Much

It is recommended to wash your face only twice a day i.e. morning and night with a gentle and mild face wash. If you wash it more than that, then you will deliberately wash away the natural oils from your face which will make your skin glands produce even more oil thus continuing the cycle.

9.    Overuse of cosmetics

Too much of makeup can clog your pores and trap the oil excreted by the oil glands which can result in breakouts. Even using an excess of skin care products can cause harm to your skin. Over scrubbing and cleansing can make your skin dry and cause wrinkles making you look older. Moreover, to take extra care of your skin, you must use oily skin care products.

Do Not Worry for Oily Skin

If you are taking care of all the above stated 9 golden rules and even then you are having acne, then do not worry as it must be genetic so you must be patient and wait till it cures by itself. Not worrying solves the majority of the problem by itself.
