Of course, all of us will have grey hair at some point in time in our lives but lately, a lot of people have started facing the problem of having premature greys. However, most of the people relate it to being a genetic problem, there are other reasons as well as poor lifestyle or lack of nutrition especially lack of Vitamin B12. Even when you have a stressful lifestyle, your hair tends to turn grey prematurely.

Hair gets their color from a pigment called melanin. When the hair is inside the follicles, melanin i.e. the natural hair dye is injected into them naturally. Melanin is of two types and the hair color you get depends on the proportion of both the types of melanin which is completely genetic. Therefore, premature greying can also be caused due to the stopping of melanin formation.

1.    Onion

Onions are known to restore the natural colour of the hair and prevent premature greys. It contains phytonutrients, vitamin C, folic acid, and copper which help in delaying the greying of hair. Hydrogen peroxide builds up the grey hair. Applying onion juice directly on your scalp will help in reversing the grey hair by reducing the buildup of hydrogen peroxide. You just have to apply it for 30 minutes before you wash your hair. Mixing onion juice with coconut oil or egg will be equally beneficial.

2.    Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has always been the best effective remedy for almost everything. Ayurveda says that high body heat causes premature greys and therefore, being a rich anti-oxidant, coconut oil is used to pacify the body heat, and thus, preventing grey hair.

3.    Curry Leaves

Using curry leaves is considered a very good home remedy to prevent premature greys. It is an age-old fact that people who either eat curry leaves or apply its oil do not get grey hair prematurely. Curry leaves act as an anti-oxidant as they contain vitamin A, C, and E and even minerals like copper, magnesium, calcium, phosphorous, and iron. Not only does it help in delaying hair greying but also strengthens the hair growth by nourishing the hair follicles. You can add curry leaves to coconut oil and boil them till they turn black. After it cools, apply it to your hair.

4.    Amla

Since amla is a brilliant source of vitamin C, it is considered to be a very good anti-oxidant for protecting your hair from prematurely greying. Moreover, its anti-oxidating qualities help in making the hair thicker, darker, and renewed. Amla can be applied in the form of oil or you can rinse your hair with amla water. You can also eat dried amla or drink amla juice for multiple health benefits.

5.    Catalase-Rich Food

According to the new research, the increase in the production of hydrogen peroxide in the hair follicles makes them turn grey. Our body produces a lot of catalase when we are young which helps in breaking down the hydrogen molecules into harmless oxygen and water. But as we grow older, the production of catalase decreases, resulting in the increase in the production of hydrogen peroxide thus, causing grey hair. Therefore, you must eat catalase rich food like almond, wheat grass, garlic, onion, leeks, cabbage, broccoli, cucumber etc. to prevent premature greys.

In order to save yourselves from premature greying, apart from the above mentioned home remedies to prevent premature greys, you must eat fresh fruits and vegetables, avoid junk food and caffeine, exercise regularly, void smoking and other harmful drugs and prefer washing your hair with cold or lukewarm water only.
