Acne is becoming an overgrown matter of concern since quite some time. Not only the outer environment but also the inner system affects our acne. You must have heard that what you eat is reflected on your skin but there is no proof till date that pimples are caused by food. However, it is always advised to have a nutritious diet irrespective of your skin problems. Acne causing bacteria, hormones, inflammation, blocked pores and many other issues like these can be the reason behind acne.
Food That Cause Acne
1. Refined Carbohydrates
Snacks, chips, crackers, cookies, cakes, etc. are some of the foods that cause acne as they have refined carbohydrates in them. High glycemic foods are considered to be one of the major reasons for acne. The logic behind carb food causing acne is that such foods make insulin levels to go high by making a rise in the blood sugar levels. The increase in insulin level leads to breakouts.
2. Dairy Products/ Milk
Either in the form of milk or alternative dairy products like cheese, chocolates, cream etc., dairy products are acne causing food. Since dairy products contain growth hormones, they make the skin produce sebum and an increase in sebum production causes acne. The amino acid, present in cow’s milk also affects the skin. Moreover, dairy products also cause a rise in the insulin levels of the body.
3. Saturated Fats
Fried eatables, burgers, fried chicken, and other fast foods which are higher in saturated fats must be avoided in order to stay acne-free. Saturated fats cause an imbalance in the hormones which can trigger acne. Fast foods not only cause acne but they also harm other body parts in the longer run.
4. Omega 6 Fats
Omega 6 fats are acne causing food. Oils like sunflower oil, margarine oil, canola oil, and corn oil can cause acne as well as inflammation. You must avoid them not only for avoiding acne but also for protecting your body from problems.
5. Whey Protein Powder
Whey protein powder contains amino acids which cause acne. It might look like its good and healthy for your body. Since whey is a by-product of skim milk, it can trigger acne by increasing the insulin levels. It also increases the sebum production which is another reason for the cause of acne.
6. Alcohol and Caffeine
Coffee is the first prefered drink by most of the people as the first drink in the morning but you must know that coffee triggers acne as it increases cortisol levels which leads to an increase in stress and insulin levels. Alcohol, on the other hand, causes a complete imbalance of testosterone or estrogen in the body.
7. Energy Drinks
Some energy drinks come amongst the foods that cause acne as they contain certain Vitamin B which can cause irritation on the skin. Moreover, most of them have no nutrients but just loaded with sugar. This, again, can cause a rise in the insulin levels of the body which can trigger acne.
Soda is an acne causing food as it has absolutely nothing except taste and is considered to be the worst drink for acne-prone skin. Soda contains fructose which is a form of sugar and soda contains both of them. A rise in the insulin level will definitely cause acne then.
